Thirty two years ago while studying dance, Ava was introduced to yoga. Her enthusiasm and dedication as a yoga practitioner led her into teaching. She has and continues to intensively study Ashtanga, Iyengar, Jivamukti and Kundalini styles of yoga and holds her certification in the Kripalu tradition. Ava is influenced by the teachings of Rodney Yee, Donna Farhi, Dharma Mittra and Erich Schiffman. Her spiritual influences include Jack Kornfield, Sylvia Boorstein and Sharon Salzberg.
She is committed to living a daily spiritual practice and her goal is to share how fulfilling yoga can be emotionally, physically, and spiritually to one's life.
Ava believes that the breath is the sutra 'thread' in which connects who we are to all that is. The breath awakens the consciousness that aligns stillness, movement, devotion, and intelligence. Ava appreciates the flow of Ashtanga and the precision of Iyengar. She refers to the anatomy of the body to open the breath and the movement. The insight gained from prananyama (the science of breath) and meditation is integral to who she is, to her relationships, to herself, and to others.
