Robert Sturman loves his work.. and who wouldn’t? He is immersed in the beautiful yoga community where he is interacting and creating with yogi’s every day. What began as a volunteer job with Yogi Times has turned into a huge following of yogi’s contacting Sturman to create his magic as he formulates each picture into a work of art. His pictures of the yogi’s translate how that person is feeling as they are immersed in a pose.. The shining lights that exist in the pictures through use of color and brush stroke are truly amazing and fascinating.. He captures the pure essence of the yogi in stillness and peace.

It is amazing how one event can shape a person’s life. For Sturman that event was the gift of a camera at age 14. Sturman studied art at the University of Santa Cruz and the famed art school in Memphis under many world reknowned masters. Sturman began traveling the world after art school where his creativity blossomed from the beauty around him. The focus and knowledge that he gleamed from his travels helped shape the artist that he is today.

Robert Sturman ventured back to California to pursue his dream of becoming a thriving artist in the local community. His wish was to become the opposite of the typical artist and live life and live it to it’s fullest capacity. His wish to live a healing life lead him on his path to the world of yoga. Sturman was doing some yogi profiles and was getting to know his subjects well immersing himself in the yoga community and all the goodness it had to offer him. Yogi’s flocked to his studio to have their pictures taken similar to Degas and his ballerinas.

Sturman earned the honor of being Visual Artist of the year for the Grammy Awards as well.

The technique that Sturman employs is unique as he takes a polaroid picture and before it dries he manipulates the image to create light,shadows,depth and so much more.

The best part of Sturman’s job is the ability to continue to evolve as an artist and as a person. He has learned many valuable lessons throughout his yoga practice.

“Your life is your masterpiece. You have the ability to mold your life into something fantastic. I am creating the yoga of my own life and a composition of my own life”. These are definitely words to live and be inspired by.

Robert Sturman strives to live a healing life. It is evident that there is much more in store on Robert’s journey, artistic and personal.. A masterpiece in the making..
